Missionaries:
Location:
United States, Sioux Nation
Team Background: Serving on their (Cheyenne River Sioux) home reservation located in South Dakota, the Garreaus have been sharing the Gospel since 1990. Chug and Karen Garreau are both enrolled tribal members of the reservation they currently serve as missionaries. Their greatest desire was to one day have a church on the reservation, and after many years of labor, they do! Chug now pastors the Calvary Chapel Fellowship located in Dupree, South Dakota.
Chug served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and, while on a hardship tour to Korea, Karen became a Christian! After 365 days of separation from his family and not knowing what he was coming home to, Chug became a Christian after 6 days upon arriving in the States. There had been much prayer on his behalf, and from the beginning of his Christian walk Chug had a heart ready to serve.
The Garreaus knew they wanted to learn more about the Lord and searched a place just for that. After retiring from the military service they chose to attend the School of Ministry at Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque, NM. Both graduated in 1993.
For their SOM Missions Trip, the Lord put on both their hearts to return home and be missionaries to their own people. Since then, they have been there 16 years and have a wide variety of ministries on the reservation. Ministry Description: Karen leads the Women’s Bible Study and is a popular speaker at Christian women’s conferences throughout South Dakota. She also assists with worship and the Youth Ministry, as well as organizing the short-term summer mission teams who help them minister to the Sioux people. Chug and Karen recently participated in the Native American versions of the Jesus Film and the Dramatized Audio version of the New Testament. Chug was the voice of Jesus in the Native American version of the Jesus Film and the voice of Paul in the Native American dramatized Audio Version of the New Testament. Karen participated in the two projects as a background voice. The Native American Jesus Film and the Native American Dramatized NT have been a great outreach resource on the Sioux Reservation. Each summer Karen and Chug collect items needed by Lakota Sioux children and conduct outreaches in the more remote and poorer areas of the reservation.
Prayer Concerns: Please continue to keep praying
for the Sunday Services and Bible Study on Wednesday nights. Chug has a
deep desire to teach others in the church like we were taught at the School of Ministry, and it's exciting to see what the Lord is doing. On
Sundays we are seeing different individuals come and go. It's our prayer
that we can reach more with the "Truth".
