Team Background:
Kim began attending Calvary of Albuquerque and graduated from the School of Ministry in 2001. There she discovered two statistics that rocked her world: half the world’s population is un-reached with the gospel and the western church is devoting less than 1% of it’s available resources to reach them. She began serving full-time with Gospel for Asia in 2003. Her pledge is to turn those numbers around in her generation.

Ministry Description: Greetings for a new year to serve the Lord Jesus. I hope your Christmas was a joyful one. Mine was peaceful, with plenty of food and fellowship with others on the GFA staff who didn’t take time off. The whole state of Texas got a white Christmas, which is almost unheard of and shut things down here for a couple of days. December is a really slow time for recruiting interns and staff, whereas some of the departments of GFA are crazy busy, due to the volume of end-of-year giving. So, between Christmas and New Years, I helped out in the “Donor Services” department, processing Christmas catalog orders. These are the gifts of water buffalos, sewing machines, rickshaws, Bibles and more, that God’s people give during the Holidays to show the love of Christ to the poorest of the poor in Asia. As you know, a single chicken can save a child from starvation, and people gave 32,000 chickens this year. That’s a lot of lives saved! People also gave funds for 45 new homes and 4 churches in Orissa, to help the believers who suffered so much persecution there just a year ago. Praise the Lord for a peaceful Christmas in Orissa this year!

Prayer Concerns: Sri Lanka's Parliament votes this month on proposed legislation titled "Bill for Prohibition of Forcible Conversions." It is expected to easily pass. The proposed
anti-conversion law calls for fines of up 500,000 Sri Lankan rupees ($4,425) and/or seven years in prison for anyone who tries to convert a Sri Lankan citizen
from one religion to another by using force, fraud or allurement. The harshest punishments are reserved for those convicted of converting women or children.
The bill was drafted by the Jathika Hela Urumaya political party, whose leadership is comprised of Buddhist monks. A leader of that party has been quoted
as saying that U.S.-funded Christian missionaries are one of the greatest threats facing Sri Lanka. Buddhist activists accuse Christians of offering jobs or money in order to get people to convert to Christianity. Christians in Sri Lanka say the bill allows vast leeway in interpretation and could result in the criminalization of
most Christian activity aimed at helping the poor. GFA has native missionaries, a Bible college, Bridge of Hope centers and radio broadcasts in two languages
in Sri Lanka. Please PRAY that this proposed anti-conversion legislation will NOT be voted into law in Sri Lanka.
Thank you, Calvary people, for your support and prayers
