Team
Background: Geiner was
born and raised in Costa
Rica, and came to the U.S.
in 1990. He met Denise in Philadelphia,
her
hometown, in 1991, and they married in 1992.
After
giving their
lives to the Lord in 2002, they thirst and hungered for more of Jesus.
In those
days they would listen to “The Connection” where they learned about the
school
of ministry in Albuquerque,
which prompted them to sell their business and make the arrangements to
move in
less than two weeks.
Geiner
graduated from
the School of Ministry in 2004, and since then was involved with
teaching the
Spanish version of Foundations, Step-by-Step, counseling, jail
ministry, the
first Spanish home fellowship, community outreach, and taught every
other
Sunday in the Spanish service at Calvary of Albuquerque.
Denise
worked with
the front desk staff at Calvary of Albuquerque, assisted in the Spanish
ministry and teaching ESL classes. She attended various classes at Calvary including step by step,
the discipleship class
and was a facilitator with the Women’s Bible study for three semesters.
Geiner
and Denise had
been considering this call to Costa Rica
since the completion of SOM in 2004,
but God in His sovereign timing did not allow them to go until 2009.
Geiner and Denise are beginning their God-given ministry by helping the
community improve by way of teaching ESL classes. This will help
develop
relationships in showing the people of Costa Rica
two aspects: 1) that
they care, and 2) the witness of Jesus Christ in their lives. The
classes will
include a class of Foundations, leading to the ultimate goal - a Bible
study
(church).
Ministry Description: Our
focus is planting a Bible-teaching church in Escazú, which will help
the
Costa Ricans transition from tradition and deception to Truth.
Costa Rica is a country
that is filled with
tradition and “good religious people”. It has been the recipient of
many
different teachings that create confusion, misunderstanding, disbelief
and
disappointment because of the lack of knowledge of the Scripture. The
need of
systematic teaching of the bible is evident and will offer light to a
scripturally illiterate population.
Our plan is
to begin building up
relationships by offering an ESL class (English as a Second Language),
since
there are many U.S.
factories in that area, the workers are compensated better if they know
English. This will give us an opportunity to minister and help the
community.
We will follow the classes with a study in Foundations. Our prayer is
that we
build strong relationships with the people so that they will be
interested in
what the Lord has to offer through bible studies and our witness.
