Missionaries: Location: Southeast Asia Team Background: John has been a Christian since 1979, and a member of Calvary Albuquerque since 1991. John was raised in Tijeras, N.M., and first began mission work in China in 1991 on a short-term mission trip. In 1993 John returned to China as a full time missionary for two years. Sarah was born and raised in the People's Republic of China and became a Christian in 1991. They met and married in China in 1995. That same year they returned to Albuquerque and began attending Calvary Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Chinese Christian Church. From the beginning of their marriage they knew God wanted them to live and share the Good News in China. They returned to China in 2001 for full-time ministry and back to Albuquerque in 2009. Now the Burn's will move back to China once again for full-time ministry in January of 2010. John is teaching conversational English at a university in China. Christian holidays are taught in the classroom as an opportunity for the students to hear about Jesus. It is their desire to see students give their lives to Christ and then share their faith with others. John studied Mandarin for four years in China and uses it often in sharing with others. In addition to teaching English, he also gives lectures to university students on youth and young adult topics that are relevant for today's modern Chinese student. These lectures are being used as a means to share Christian principles with his students and open opportunities to share Jesus with them. John and Sarah are leading Chinese to Christ with the desire to plant churches in their province in China. Ministry Description: Prayer Concerns: Pray John and Sarah will find an abundance of schools in the countryside wanting them to lecture so they can share Christ with students who have never heard the Good News before. - Pray Joy will transition well into her local Chinese school as she will have to learn everything in Chinese. - Pray for their physical safety and health as China has struggled with various diseases over the recent years; - Pray for their spiritual growth and encouragement as the Chinese nowadays are seeking material things and not spiritual things.
